Worm Farm

Katelyn uses a nail to pound holes for air in the top of the jar.
Using safety glasses while using a hammer and nails is important.
We started with a layer of soil and then oatmeal.
The oatmeal provides food for the worms.
We will be able to see how the worms work as we watch the oatmeal and soil blend.
Topping off the jar with more oatmeal and more soil.
Worms need a little moisture, not too much, so they won't dry out.
 Now we add the worms!
We had 36 wiggly, squiggly worms to add to the farm.
Watching the worms begin to tunnel.
Everyone interested in touching a worm added one to the farm.
We will learn how worms are important to our soil.
 Lots of worms!
Checking to make sure we have them all.
 Look at all those worms!

We will enjoy watching our worm farm in action.  It is covered with dark paper so the worms will work.  We learned that even though worms do not have eyes they are very light sensitive.
